Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. Neelix learns that the hard way as #PaxFedVGRewatch-along with #MissionLogPodcast and #TheDeltaFlyers engages in "Fair Trade" - and we ain't talking about Janeway's coffee here.
I wasn't terribly impressed with this one back in '97. After this rewatch though, it might be one of S3's most underrated episodes. Neelix's desperation to remain useful to the Voyager crew starts him on this downward spiral he can't pull himself out of.
Shades of DS9 where there was all manner of criminal activity going on. Also shades of TNG "The Pegasus" with Neelix, like Riker in that episode, ultimately opting to do the right thing at the story's make-or-break moment.
But to me this episode saves its best for last, as Janeway, in the guise of disciplining Neelix, lets him know that despite his missteps and his diminished usefulness, he's still part of the Voyager family - which is what he'd really wanted all along. Talk about "tough love".
