This is not to say this is the type of rack or installation we would have recommended. We were not consulted, of course.

This is a "pilot project" that was installed after we lobbied, had meetings, called politicians, etc. It is in reaction to that work.

Done in a way that was meant to minimize and bury the work we did, and to take credit for it it it was successful.

But it is more accessible than most racks at UC Davis or even in #DavisCA #CycleParkingAudit #BikeTooter #UCAccessNow

Basket of old AA bike lights for $10. Now checking them out. Will need straps, but I wonder if I can get away with using old rubber tubes somehow. Will load them with AA's and attempt to give them away to cyclists riding by on the dark with no lights. #BikeTooter

Random things, but it sounds like the paid for, approved Class IV bicycle lane our city was going to install is "on hold". They are blaming a new owner of the mall, but they mentioned it also was because the traffic engineer's "demonstration project" to super cone a lane to "show what the bicycle lane would be like" generated 700+ negative comments from drivers, "the most negative comment the city has ever seen"... so they are "rethinking" things. I think the traffic engineer KNEW this would happen and thus they decided to run the "demonstration", knowing it would kill the project. Sabotage... 😡 #BikeTooter

Thousand Oaks Acorn - · City to test temporary bike lanesSmack dab in the middle of National Bike Month, the City of Thousand Oaks is entering the demonstration phase of a long-discussed bike lane project along Hillcrest Drive. Before bringing the estimated $2.9 million project to the Traffic and Transportation Advisory Commission and City Council in the fall, city staff members hope residents will provide feedback regarding travel on Hillcrest […]

There’s a great double-episode of @TheWarOnCars podcast about exactly that kind of cyclist and the reactionary ideologue that inspired them

It’s way more than spandex in suburbia

A major faction of American cycling viscerally hating on bike lanes for decades

Why North American cities are not like Amsterdam? Because this guy was a tool

Just another Waymo picking up in the bike lane on Townsend and 3rd. They programmed them to do this on purpose. But sure, tell me again how cyclists should worship robocars as our traffic-safety saviors. 😒 #bikeTooter

Hey Tim, why do you sort of hate "protected" bike lanes in Portland?

1. They're just gutters not actual infrastructure.
2. Paint and flexible plastic tubes don't protect anyone from anything.
3. If for whatever reason you can't ride in the lane, drivers get extra agro.
4. They get cleaned even less than unprotected lanes.
(not the best picture, showing a sweeper trail having to avoid cleaning the bike lane because bollards are in the way)

The other day I got a puncture flat and fixed it with a pre-glued patch, but it got flat again overnight. I finally pulled the tube out again this morning, and the patch is gone. Nowhere to be found 👻 But the tire and the rim tape looked/felt fine so I put in a new tube, went out, got back to my bike… and it’s flat again! The puncture is probably caused by the same thing but I messed up the tire beads looking for it.

So #BikeTooter friends, please recommend me a 20”x 1.75” puncture-proof tire 🙏
