Curious How Trump’s Cost Cutting Could Affect Your National Park Visit? You Might Not Get a Straight Answer.

National Park Service staff have received talking points ordering them to describe layoffs as “workforce management actions” and to reassure visitors that changes resulting from the cuts won’t impede “memorable and meaningful experiences for all.”

Blocked experiences
In 2021, my wife and I took our 2nd COVID trip back to the SW and its grand American National Parks. We spent our time in Arches and Canyonlands. The highlight was a self-guided visit into the Fiery Furnace. That hike in the rocks was amazing. Yesterday, my wife told me that the Fiery Furnace is closing down due to funding issues… I’m sorry that others will not be able to experience this amazing place.

Musk’s #DOGE purge is causing more harm than the #firings -that needlessly upend lives, they’re devastating communities & reducing the GDP.

“For every $1 spent by the Parks, they produce $15 in economic activity. It’s <0.067% of all fed spending.

Parks have a huge economic multiplier. They create platforms for substantial pvt sector activity (tourism, REC bus’…) while preserving public assets that appreciate in value over time -an incredible investment for the economy.”

Atrocities mount: #Musk is cutting off critical supplies, stalling travel, & killing productivity.

#NOAA scientists aren’t able to order EQP used to repair ships/radars. #FDA: labs are experiencing delays in ordering basic supplies. At the #NPS, WKRs: CXL trips to oversee crucial maintenance work. #USDA/ #FAA WKRs worry: mission-critical projects could be stalled.

#NIH researcher who tests new vaccines/treatments in rodents -on hold -can't get antibodies-.

I really enjoyed this story of a young Black girl in the 50s who found a path to her dream with the National Parks, a path her daughter followed, and her impact on others:
