Futurist Jim Carroll
"Intentional kindness: humanity's superpower" - Futurist Jim Carroll, with a shoutout to Drew Sullivan, APB Speakers

The image in today's Inspiration features my good friend Michael Simon; the phrase, "intentional kindness," comes from one of my speaker bureau agents, Drew Sullivan. One teaches us the importance of finding moments of joy when we need it most and the importance of 'giving back'; the other involves intentionally making those moments of joy for others because they truly matter.

It's a long post, but I want you to read it.

Why? We seem to be living in a world in which the core values of human decency seem to be disappearing at the speed with which societal norms are unraveling. As an example, I have read that one of the latest trends with the tech oligarchs - folks like Elon Musk and the young men who worship them - is that they find it to be fashionable to use denigrating words and phrases. They seem to think that it is all one big joke and that somehow, this provides them a boost to their 'machismo' - far from it. Most recently, their childish immaturity has extended to the regular use of the 'retard,' as if that somehow empowers them and makes them stronger

I do not know what darkness lies in the depths of their soul, but I know I and others will fight this darkness with all our might.

So let me start with my friend Michael. Here's a photo from a few weeks ago when we were both wrapping up a wonderful ski day.

I've known Michael since he was 2 years old.

Now 29, he is a special needs young adult who has a unique genetic condition that has limited his full abilities - and yet, he has achieved capabilities that experts have said might never be possible. It was said he could never ski - he learned to ski. It was said he would never be able to master a snowboard. Today, he 'shreds' with the best of them.

He has accomplished many other things in his life - and he has the most infectious smile of any person I have ever known.

You can't see Michael smile and, in these moments of despair, worry, and concern, find some joy some sort of joy creeping into your own heart. Michael's smile is a crucible of joy and a cauldron of inspiration.

We all need more moments like this. We should all find the joy around us because those are the moments that matter. You can help to 'generate it by getting involved, giving back, and supporting those who are under attack, marginalized, or who need attention and help. That's why social causes are even more important today than they were before.

Read the rest of the post.

#Kindness #Humanity #Empathy #Connection #Compassion #Community #Joy #Purpose #Resilience #Intentionality

Original post: https://jimcarroll.com/2025/03/daily-inspiration-giving-back-intentional-kindness-humanitys-superpower/

Futurist Jim Carroll
"There is no greater act of optimism than thinking beyond the ‘now’" - Futurist Jim Carroll

When people are struggling and in difficulty, it's important to try to instill some sense of hope, a belief that things can get better and that there is a way forward. Thinking about that, the phrase "There is no greater act of optimism than..." came to mind.

It's a wonderful starter phrase because it has so many potential pathways forward!

Thinking beyond 'right now' is the most wonderful of all, though, because it helps you get into a mindset of thinking beyond the difficulties of this very moment.

That said, there are a lot of other ways to use the phrase, all of which can help you do that

There is no greater act of optimism than...

... empowering yourself with kindness
... finding the strength to question
... focusing on what you can control
... remembering your capacity to change
... renewing your sense of purpose
... trusting in your ability to rebound
... defining yourself through imagination
... thinking 'what can be done?'

...and many, many more!

The fact is, there are many greater acts of optimism!

Read the post for more....

----
Futurist Jim Carroll sometimes finds it hard to keep his optimism ahead of his pessimism. Futurist Jim Carroll
"World-class innovators should always remember that short term volatility need not define long term success" - Futurist Jim Carroll

The most powerful thing I've ever seen is when the CEO of the global food services powerhouse Compass Group went on stage just before I did, in 2008, just as the global economy was melting down.

You had to be there.

I was there to follow his message to share my insight on the future and innovation - and that day, all of a sudden, everything about the future and innovation had changed, in a very significant fashion.

Here's what unfolded.

The headlines that morning were pretty stark and ugly.

He opened the event - a day of meetings for his leadership team of several hundred - looked at his audience - and said this in his very first moment: "We can panic. We can do nothing. Or we can innovate, change, and adapt."

Sitting in the audience, I quickly began reworking my slide deck to catch the new tone of the day. The room was dark, in more ways than one; the pre-event chatter was ominous; people looked nervous and worried.

The opening section of my deck - which I still have to this day (I have all of them!) - was quickly being locked into a new key theme. If they had asked me to talk about the future and innovation, then I was going to speak about that in the context of this sudden new world of a different future and a new sort of innovation!

I listened intently to his talk and his core message, modifying my slide deck furiously all the time.

Then, I went on stage and delivered.

I started with an entirely new section to my slide deck - that I had finished off just moments earlier - noting that what they needed to do right now was to establish a relentless focus on growth - and that I was going to explain why.

#Innovation #Resilience #Leadership #Volatility #Perspective #Opportunity #Economics #Growth #Adaptation #Uncertainty

Original post: https://jimcarroll.com/2025/03/daily-inspiration-economic-volatility-world-class-innovators-should-always-remember-that-short-term-volatilty-need-not-define-long-term-success/

STREET ART UTOPIA
Emerging Through Red (by Yesor Graff in Morelia, Mexico)
This striking mural by Yesor Graff in Morelia, Mexico, captures a woman pushing through a torn red surface, as if breaking free from confinement. Her piercing green eyes contrast sharply with the deep red, evoking themes of resilience and transformation. The blade of grass between her lips hints at nature’s quiet defiance, a reminder of life’s persistence even in urban settings. The detailed realism of her face, combined with the illusion of a ruptured wall, makes this artwork both […]
https://streetartutopia.com/2025/02/28/emerging-through-red-by-yesor-graff-in-morelia-mexico/

Futurist Jim Carroll
"Nothing tightens the purse like uncertainty!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

As the saying goes, 'We're not in Kansas anymore.' But it certainly feels like it's the fall of 2008! Time to roll out some older brochure copy!

What's up? This is the topic that I found myself covering on stage from 2009 to about 2012, and I fully expect to be doing it again. Just yesterday, I bumped the topic up on my keynote list!

One of the interesting things about the industry I am in is that it can be a bellwether for the broader economy. As consumer confidence crashes, so too does the number of conferences and events. Travel cutbacks kick in, spending is put under a microscope, and leaders get nervous. Oh, and people who have been recently laid off are too busy trying to find work to attend an event somewhere. I had 108 rounds of golf last year. I suspect I'll beat that record!

What's up? You are probably watching the same headlines I'm seeing.
Consumer confidence is shattering.

Fears of a recession are spiraling.

Look, I don't want to seem like Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling.
But speaking about chickens, let's talk about the price of eggs. If we go back just a little bit in the past, it seems like all that people wanted was cheaper eggs!

Ya, um, nope.

The situation has gotten so dire that Waffle House has begun adding a surcharge for every egg they sell.

Did you know there is a site in which you can track the price of eggs? So much work went into connecting communities and providing a network of low-cost transport, that you feel a rip in your heart over your grandparents act of letting the vines of connection wither in favour of expensive, inefficient BORING automobile carriages.

The joy of watching the countryside slide by while reading a book or having a face to face conversation can’t compare to being stuck at the levers and dials of those darn cars. You wonder at the hubris of attempting to make cars self-driving, as if Gödel and Murphy hadn’t seen right through that in advance.

The train line to your daughter’s house runs past a scrapyard. The tower of Teslas is particularly tall today, must be the crusher operator’s day off. Won’t be keeping the bodywork, you answered.

The old spur line that terminates at the abandoned rail yard near your home was a perfect testbed. Plenty of roof space for recycled solar panels, old wooden passenger carriages that can drop on to the new teslabogeys. Your impromptu market day service between here and the next town became a celebration of community spirit, sunbonnets and sunglasses, baskets of produce, flocks of kids and dogs. Futurist Jim Carroll
"Urgency demands optimism" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Five years ago, just about this time, millions of people found that they suddenly had to reinvent their future, due to rapidly emerging, unforeseen circumstances. One hundred years from now, those weeks and that year will be viewed as a pretty seismic event in human history; the reverberations are still shaking the foundations of everything around us, often not in a good way.

I certainly did my part to reinvent my reality, building a pretty sophisticated virtual green screen broadcast studio, the second version of which is still found in my basement. Although demand for virtual presentations has collapsed, it is still in use - later today, I'll film a short video for one of my speaker bureau partners for a marketing campaign they have underway.

One of my projects in late 2020 and early 2021 was to explore the mindset of those who were busy 'reinventing' their reality during these trying times. I ended up interviewing eight individuals about their efforts - a rock star, a fireman, an event planner, a magician, a fitness coach, an ex-con, and a pastor.

All of the video interviews ended up on a Website that lives on to this day, found at https://reinvention.jimcarroll.com

Sometime after the series concluded, I realized that there was a book to be found within all of this marvelous insight. My wife and I rewatched all of the videos, extracting the personal wisdom of each person, and eventually compiled those into my book Now What? Reinvention & The Role of Optimism in Finding Your New Future.

Fast forward: we now find ourselves with a vast set of AI tools, and I've been busy exploring how these can be used as a knowledge and productivity tool. I've mentioned that my go-to favorite is Google Notebook, which allows us to create our own little personal AI tool to examine documents, videos, Websites, and other sources of information.

I decided, as a way of looking back and forward, to create a Notebook that would 'watch' all of the original YouTube videos from this reinvention series, and compile a 'notebook' that I could then query for additional insight.

Once I linked all the videos, I asked a simple question: what is the key message to be found in all of these hour-long videos about reinvention? It popped back with today's quote - urgency demands optimism!

----

The interviewees in the sources suggest that urgency is a key factor that drives individuals to reinvent themselves. The sources highlight the importance of acting fast, embracing new realities, being optimistic, and continuously learning and evolving in the face of rapid change

---

That was really intriguing, so I then suggested what else it 'saw' with the idea of 'urgency.'

Read on!

**#Urgency** **#Reinvention** **#Adaptation** **#Resilience** **#Innovation** **#Action** **#Leadership** **#Transformation** **#Optimism** **#Change**

Original post: https://jimcarroll.com/2025/02/daily-inspiration-personal-growth-reinvention-urgency-demands-optimism/

Futurist Jim Carroll
"Whatever it takes. That has to be your mindset." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Many people seem to be engineered to give up too easily. Pack it in. Move on before the hard work. Never give what it takes. Abandon the effort. Never do what it takes.

The question is - why?

People seem to understand what success requires, yet consistently fail to take the necessary actions.

What's behind this attitude?

Comfortable complacency. Too many get trapped in what I call the "good enough zone" - where they're just comfortable enough to resist real change, but not successful enough to thrive. This dangerous complacency is like a slow-acting poison in today's rapid-change environment.

A "not-my-problem' attitude. Too many people see the need for change but respond with "not my department" or "not my responsibility." This abandonment of responsibility creates a paradox: everyone sees the problem, but no one takes action.

Fear is the default setting. People are too scared to move and choose inaction as a strategy, mistaking it for prudence. But here's the reality: in 2025, the risk of doing nothing far outweighs the risk of action.

A lack of confidence. A lot of people have convinced themselves they can't adapt or master new realities. They've created their glass ceilings, limiting their potential before even trying.

Here's the stark reality: Success requires more than just knowing what to do - it demands the courage to do it. You need to move beyond understanding to action, beyond planning to execution, beyond fear to calculated risk-taking.

Here's the thought you need to plant in your mind - the future doesn't belong to the smartest or the strongest - it belongs to those willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.

So how do you do that?

Here's my list.

**#Persistence** **#Innovation** **#Growth** **#Action** **#Resilience** **#Speed** **#Commitment** **#Excellence** **#Fearless** **#Breakthrough**

Original post: https://jimcarroll.com/2025/02/daily-inspiration-moving-into-motivation-whatever-it-takes-that-has-to-be-your-mindset/
