(Why vegetable dog treats come in quite so much plastic is another issue - I have now sourced catering size cardboard dog treat boxes so please don’t get at me!) The fabric is a rather horrid stretch nylon which has remained unbothered in my stash because I like the pattern but hate the material. Sini Tuulia<p>Well, that took a little bit. First of two tiers of petticoat ruffle on. (Ruffle? Flounce? What is language?)<br>With the aid of the simple block of metal gathering presser foot and a million sewing pins, I wrangled it on the skirt. The gathering foot isn't super precise, but it sure helped shrink down the ruffle enough that it wasn't a horrible battle to pin it on there!</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sewing</span></a></p>
Gwen Fisher<p>Hitomezashi sashiko cuts the surface into a tiling that can always be colored with exactly two colors so that the two colors never touch. My first round of stitches are large, so I filled in half of the space with tiny cross stitches in navy blue. This highlights the two-coloring of the tiling. (Yes, there’s a mistake in the geometry, but it’s working perfectly as a patch.) The fabric for the patch is a vintage piece of woven silk, from a collection of a seller’s samples, and I used the pattern woven into the silk as the grid for my stitches. And here, I can learn from my mother and hear all the tricks and habits she picked up along her sewing life.</p><p>Later, I'll learn to repair a broken seam.
