The bedcover is finished. Minnie, the chief user of this bed, seems to approve - she is currently lying on the Lake District
I deconstructed an old fitted sheet to make the backing so all the materials except the thread are reused items

If you throw out clothes (and even sending old clothes to charity shops is often throwing them out) where do they go? El Pais tracked some https://english.elpais.com/climate/2025-03-01/where-do-the-clothes-go-after-we-put-them-in-a-recycling-bin-an-11-month-investigation-covering-thousands-of-kilometers.html

Over the past few weeks, I have been working on a compact greenhouse on wheels. It’s almost entirely created from upcycled materials. Our neighbors generously gifted us with some plexiglass he had laying around.
As a result we are able to move the greenhouse depending of the sun‘s position. We have also started some growing some new seedlings, including corn, kidney beans, kohlrabi and radishes.
Just finished sewing together the tea towels for my bedcover project. 7 came from op shops and 2 from Mum. Because of the various sizes the arrangement options were a bit limited but I’m happy with it!
Now I will hunt through my stash of old sheets for some backing and binding fabric.
My neighbor asked me for a clock in a special format for her office, and now it's done.
I made the clock with wood from an old pallet.

Me: OOh yes ! A video about how to use up fabric scraps
YouTubers: So I've had these mismatched 2 yards of fabric in my scraps bin for years ...
Me: :: Eyes the postage stamp and small envelope sized pieces of fabric in my scraps stash ::
LADY WORDS HAVE MEANINGS! YARDS* ARE NOT SCRAPS !
[* No - a 'few meters' are also not 'Scraps' FFS!]
I have published the umbrella-into-shopping-bag as a free pattern/sewing tutorial on Tumblr with lots of diagrams!

#familyDay #sewingproject - took a set of inexpensive bed sheets and remade them into a removable duvet cover. I had to get creative with the corners as the fitted sheets were of course missing a bit of fabric, but all good in the end!

Success!!! One shopping bag made from half a broken umbrella, and I even reused the little velcro fastening!
Complete with 2x inner pockets, and the point of the umbrella is the only bit that doesn't get used.
Today I made a shopping bag out of half of a dead umbrella! I think it's pretty cool but I haven't managed to test it yet. (This is the second half of the umbrella. The first attempt came out a bit weeeeird.)
The bees are hand-printed onto the umbrella by the former owner, so that's why it's off-centre. The seams are symmetrical, and some triangular bits got folded inside without being cut to make inside pockets.
I found the umbrella abandoned on the side of the road and I love bees so my inner hoarder took over. It was years ago! I'm so glad it's done, and I'm very curious to know if it'll be strong enough. If it is, that means I have a potential way to recycle something that gets thrown out a lot, which I am very into.
Just confirmed I’ll be teaching an evening sewing class in the spring ( April to June) at the Richard Robinson Fashion Academy.
I’ll cover a lot of professional and haute couture techniques in the 10 week course. The description on the website is non specific at the moment, but even once we confirm the project plan, I always personalize the lesson where I can to accommodate the students in attendance!
Ie, a skirt can be turned into a useful, well made tote bag with the right tweaks

made a little quilted mat for my tiny bedside table. mostly for practical reasons to soundproof the surface!
i listen to stories at night to help me fall asleep and have to be very careful every time i put my phone back down so i don’t wake my partner up. now with this quilted mat i can rest easy without making a sound :)
for the batting / in-between layer, i used an old retired duvet.
I made a shelf out of trash
And it was all free because of communism (thanks to Le Square at the #BANQ!)
I made this outfit a while ago, and the skirt is made from an old tablecloth my grandfather was planning on throwing away.
Blouse also made and patterned by me. The coat I also made years ago out of a pattern I borrowed from the costume shop in college that I modified to be an Ulster Coat. I have absolutely no recollection of what the pattern was.
