It's officially Snow Flea time, spring must be around the distant corner.
Today it will be up to +10 C, and the little springtails are crawling up to the snowy surface to eat algae, fungi, and organic litter. There are so many that sometimes the boot prints in the snow are black with them.
Their bodies contain antifreeze, making them very cold tolerant.

Tiny black critters moving around between snow and ice crystals.

Sorry for lack of posting for a few days, had field work (surprising, I know!) and so I made the most of a few days to study the Earth, leaving my computer at home.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled #MarshMadness ! It is now day 13! Enjoy this pretty marsh landscape on the edge of a forest from the southern US.

There is so much beauty here, so much life to protect, where the EPA is weakened let's get our states to step up! Nature access is bipartisan, everyone wants to partake, so make sure to be contacting even your republican reps on these issues. The only ones who want to destroy it are the billionaires.

Looking through a break in the trees (oak, pine, and I'm not sure what is on the right, maybe ash?) to a large wetland area full of grasses. The green carpet of long grasses and plants stretches out for a long ways until the sparkly blue water beyond - still with springs of green in it due to its shallow nature. The other side fades into the distance, but you can tell there are grasses there too, before a small rise in landscape has more forest beyond. The sky is a bit overexposed but you can tell it is a bright blue sky day with puffy white clouds that are almost cartoon like in their cotton ball perfection.
