starbase80.wtf is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
Just because we believe in Starfleet's ideals and values doesn't mean we're serious and professional. There's a reason we ended up at Starbase 80.

sohkamyung<p>My first snake sighting in the Year of the Snake 2025, and it's a beauty. The Blue Malaysian Coral Snake (Calliophis bivirgatus), spotted at Thomson Nature Park on 23 Feb 2025. A highly venomous snake, this one was quite calm and not bothered by the crowd watching it (it did not raise its tail as a warning). After spending some time on the walking path, it went back into the forest.</p><p>On iNaturalist [ <a href="https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/262796429" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">inaturalist.org/observations/2</span><span class="invisible">62796429</span></a> ].</p><p><a href="https://photog.social/tags/iNaturalist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iNaturalist</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nature</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Photography</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Singapore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Singapore</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Snakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Snakes</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Serpentes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Serpentes</span></a></p>

Cefiar<p>Suggestion for anyone with microchipped pets, regardless of whom it is registered with:<br>- Check the microchip details of your pet(s) with <a href="https://www.petaddress.com.au" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">petaddress.com.au</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> to see who they are registered with.<br>- Make sure all information is up to date (ie: contact details/address), no matter which registry they are with.<br>- Make sure pets that are required to be registered with your local council/shire/city/state have been. This is separate to microchip registration.<br>- Keep a copy of all your pets information, including the microchip details. Confirm your vet has these details too.</p><p>If you want to transfer away from HomeSafeID to another provider, you usually need to deregister them first, which is hard to do if HomeSafeID are unresponsive. By having all the details yourself on hand, at the very least you can then reregister them if HomeSafeID goes away.</p><p><a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Cats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cats</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Dogs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dogs</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Horses" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Horses</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Birds</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Reptiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Reptiles</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Snakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Snakes</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Lizards" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lizards</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Frogs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Frogs</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Turtles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Turtles</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Rodents" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rodents</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Ferrets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ferrets</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Rats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rats</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Mice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mice</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Microchip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Microchip</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Australia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Australia</span></a> <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/Pets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pets</span></a> <br>🧵 2/3</p>
Cefiar<p>Are you living in Australia? Do you own a pet?</p><p>There are claims and rumours that HomeSafeID, one of the many national microchip pet registries in Australia, may have gone into receivership (unconfirmed), and as such it seems their future may be uncertain. During Christmas to early January, emails bounced and their phones were unanswered. There is a notice on their website from January 5th saying that there are some issues, but no detailed explanation of what happened or is happening. Even now, it seems no one has yet received a human response to any enquiries.</p><p>HomeSafeID is primarily used by the RSPCA all over Australia. If you got your pet through the RSPCA, it's likely registered though HomeSafeID.</p><p>This event highlights some of the holes in microchipping registries in Australia. llewelly<p>woke up listening to old episode of herphighlights, and they're explaining massive changes a snake's body goes through to digest a huge meal, including:</p><p>* Oxygen consumption can increase by as much as 44 times. Similar to the difference between a horse at rest and a horse at full gallop.</p><p>* Stomach ph drops from 7 to 1. (Snakes maintain near-neutral stomach ph when not digesting)</p><p>In a tangent starting about 27 minutes in. </p><p><a href="https://herphighlights.podbean.com/e/039-an-appetite-for-arboreality/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">herphighlights.podbean.com/e/0</span><span class="invisible">39-an-appetite-for-arboreality/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/snakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snakes</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/reptiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reptiles</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/eating" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eating</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/digestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>digestion</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a></p>

llewelly<p>this wonderful herphighlights podcast is about snakes and ants. 3 different species of Madagascan snakes are introduced into an ant nests, to observe the reactions of the ants, which are 3 very different reactions. One of the 3 snakes is known as the ant-mother . : ) <br><a href="https://herphighlights.podbean.com/e/110-snakes-ant-mothers-or-ant-eaters/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">herphighlights.podbean.com/e/1</span><span class="invisible">10-snakes-ant-mothers-or-ant-eaters/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/ants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ants</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/snakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snakes</span></a><br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/reptiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reptiles</span></a></p>
