Discontinuation of Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 and Coins

Starting March 5, 2025, there will no longer be access to the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 and any apps downloaded from it will not be guaranteed to operate on Windows 11 devices. Amazon Appstore will continue to be available elsewhere, including on Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices #Amazon #Windows11

#Microsoft will end support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) on March 5, 2025. WSA is essential for users to run #Android apps on Windows 11, and its discontinuation means the Amazon Appstore will no longer be supported on #Windows devices.

Me be trying, hoping, wishing, to persuade dad to let me finally convert his win10 pc to Linux [+ a permanently offline win10 VM for his proprietary pgms that ofc do not run in Linux, & for which he won't or can't let me convert him to FOSS equivalents], instead of doing the feared upgrade to win11, sometime in the coming months. 🤞 🤞 🤞

I've not had time yet to read all these, but so many of the links here seem to portray win11 as total tripe & hideous horror... which IMO would be some achievement given i loathed win10 from the start, so if 11 is actually even worse than 10, then... OMZ 😱

DLF: Linux auf einem älteren Laptop installieren

Audio: Web | MP3

... or it just has a severe bug.

Many people are complaining, see here on The Register:

Or see this thread on Microsoft's community forum (recent comments):

That is insane.

Workaround/Fix: Switch to #Linux, or at least use #SANE under #WSL (NOTE: Command line use required). Or wipe machine and install #Windows10.

The Register · A New Year's gift from Microsoft: Surprise, your scanners don't workBy Richard Speed

1/2

Modern printers and especially multi-function devices are driverless (no device-model specific software or information needed), for both the printer and the scanner part. Printing works via IPP and scanning via eSCL or WSD.

On Linux this works very well and people appreciate it.

#Windows has switched over to Windows Protected Print now, in its #Windows11 24H2 release. No printer drivers supported any more, only driverless.

But it seems that scanning got forgotten ...

My 13 year old laptop is definitely antique, but sadly it's not the steampunk one!!

It's a 2012 Dell Precision Workstation M4700 maxxed out to 32GB of RAM, 2.5TB storage in three drives, Intel i7, with an upgraded screen and an upgraded GPU ... now likely to become triple boot if I get serious about Linux given it won't run Win11 easily. Insanely maintainable, these things were really build to last.

Seriously, I have a dual boot 2012 laptop - Windows 7 Ultimate (with 0patch) and 10 Professional.

Win7 with full aero was a thing of beauty :windows7:

They binned it because they wanted an OS that could run on tablets and mobiles, with low power consumption.

Tbf Win 10 Mobile (I still have an HP Elite X3 phone with the last Enterprise build of it) was an OS of beauty
