It's a mystery to me/The game commences...
#PaxFedVGRewatch-along with @MissionLogPod and @TheDeltaFlyers does some private (and not-so-private) "Investigations", and uncovers the truth about Tom Paris's misbehavior over the past few episodes.
Not to toot my own horn, but on the first airing back in 1996 I had Paris's big twist sussed out the episode before. That Paris's misbehavior seemed so over-the-top, and just happened to begin right after Michael Jonas's treason struck me as too sus to be a mere coincidence.
So, back then, it was obviously satisfying to see my idea being proven correct. That said, going into journalism strikes me as an odd career move, even for a jack-of-all-trades like Neelix. Still, he handles it with aplomb. This is his investigation; it's not a public inquiry.
Alas, the resolution left me a bit cold. One, by the time Paris has exposed Jonas's treachery and treason (there's always an excuse for it), Neelix has not only already figured that out for himself, but is able to stop Jonas on his own, making redundant Paris's whole operation.
Two, given that their recent feud had been staged, the episode should have ended with Paris apologizing to Chakotay personally, instead of or at least before doing it on Neelix's show, which seems an abrupt and unsatisfying conclusion to the Paris/Jonas arc.
Last, but not least, if Hemikek IV was a trap, Voyager presumably didn't get the material they needed to repair the warp nacelles from there - and yet, the final shot is of Voyager tooling along at warp. So how DID they repair the nacelles?
Oh, and by the way... first Eddington, now Jonas (and later Burnham, though at least she ultimately repented)... what is it about Star Trek characters named Michael that apparently gives them such a propensity to go rogue, anyway?
