Report: The Israeli government has directly threatened Israeli cinemas & cultural institutes not to screen the Oscar-winning documentary, No Other Land.

In response, the Israeli-Palestinian grassroots organisation, Standing Together, is organizing dozens of public screenings across Israel.

"They won’t silence us", said the film’s co-director. "They won’t erase the struggle against the occupation.”

The interview was conducted two weeks before the film won an Oscar.

[...] As a Mizrahi [Arab] Jew, I'm familiar with the experience of people thinking you're Arab. Once, at the entrance to a mall, I was speaking with him [his grandfather; OM] on the phone in Arabic, and the security guard stopped me. These are experiences that happen all the time.

[...] Neither I nor Basel are filmmakers. Rachel and Hamdan are very talented photographers, but no one thought about making a film. And then, I remember how during one car ride, about five years ago, we were teasing each other about how our posts weren't reaching anyone. In my case, there was an instance where only my mom liked my post. And then the idea came up that we have so much filmed material, let's make a film out of it.

[...] There needs to be equality, whether it's in two states, one state with a bi-national mechanism, or a confederation without evacuation. But the foundation is that neither we nor the Palestinians are going anywhere. Trump's vision? It shames our history as Jews, especially the fact that there's now a discussion of 'ethnic cleansing for and against.' It won't guarantee our security, just as expulsions in the past didn't bring a solution. There is so much creativity here in Israel. If we invested one percent of it, instead of just building high-tech and weapons, we would reach a solution. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Gal Gadot (stood beside ‪Michael Moore‬) in the audience watching when a movie documenting the daily horrors of Israel’s occupation of Palestine being recognized for its message against apartheid and ethnic cleansing. I think she managed to hide her disappointment quite well, despite being a shitty actress and a horrible shameless propagandist for the Israeli government and its army, which are implicated in genocide.

The Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers behind "No Other Land" delivered their best documentary feature acceptance speech together, starting with Basel Adra.

“No Other Land reflects the harsh reality that we have been enduring for decades and still persists as we call for the world to take serious actions to stop the injustice, and stop the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Co-director Yuval Abraham continued: “We made this film, Palestinians and Israelis, because together, our voices are stronger. We see each other, the atrocious destruction of Gaza and its people that must end. The Israeli hostages taken on October 7 that must be freed. We live in a regime where I am free under civilian law, and he is under military law… As I am here, the foreign policy in this country is helping to block this path. Why? Can't you see that we are intertwined? That my people can't be truly safe if his people aren't truly safe and free? It's not too late for life and the living. There is no other way.”
