Handmade vinyl crates with handles cut in the side. Created with my dad’s help (and his carpentry tools) decades ago, and they’ve travelled with me for thousands of miles. Rudimentary yet practical, my favorite combination.

That's what I worked on today. There's a reason I put the handrail up first... I need something to grab onto when I stand up from putting the lower boards in place.
Well after 35 hours in the shop working on this, I have the vast majority of the construction done. Left to do is the drawer front fitting, trim the two open ends, and make the leg structure.
Nevermind finish sanding the outside of the carcass, and everything else. #ALT4me please!

Some details of the joinery used for the build- all dados, grooves and tenons, along with mitres with dominos for alignment. The first two were cut with a router and straight edge, the tenons with table saw. #MCM #woodworking #cabinetry #woodwork #carpentry #maker
I forgot to tell mastodon that I’ve been making a thing for me this week! It’s a coffee table, vaguely #MCM and it’s going great, here are some progress photos! #woodworking #cabinetry #woodwork #carpentry #maker
TIL: Denmark switched to the metric system in 1907, but apparently some Danish carpenters still prefer to measure in inches, and Hultafors still sells folding rules with both systems.
Note however that the Danish inch ("tomme") is 26.1 mm.

Today I’ve managed to hit my hand with my hammer, drill into my finger and stab myself with a pointy part of a mitre join.
What a complete amateur. Any tips would be helpful.
Last night's project: bee nuc (used for capturing bees and for small hives) made out of salvaged plywood and scrap wood. Not fine furniture, but the bees do not care about glue drips and unfinished edges (and a couple of wayward nails... nailing into the side of plywood requires smaller nails than in my junk pile). #beekeeping #carpentry
I've enjoyed this one. The customer called me and said he’d bought the balustrading and a post and needed it all fit and some cladding done.
When I turned up, I slightly shifted his vision so it would look better. He loves it. Now he has to paint it.
Hey there, Mastodon! I'm a woodworking enthusiast with a knack for trim and finish carpentry, and all things hands-on. When I'm not in the shop, you’ll probably find me diving into Linux and FOSS, exploring the Fediverse, or appreciating a good glass of bourbon, scotch, or whisky
. Excited to connect, share ideas, and learn from this amazing community! #Woodworking #Bourbon #Scotch #Whisky #Linux #FOSS #Fediverse #Carpentry #Introduction
I framed and installed three windows this summer in our family's old cabin in New Jersey.
Technical problems with my thumbs this morning.
I think a nap is called for.
Good illustrations of a tusk tenon joint: https://www.woodworkersjournal.com/hand-tool-techniques-tusk-tenons/
Always admired this kitchen table. Very well built. The tusk tenons are holding like on their first day, no movement of any sort.
It's designed so the cross-bar doesn't interfere with the human legs and the X interferes less than a regular square leg on a table corner.
It only took a year and a half, but I finally put the caps on the posts for the deck stairs. Of course when I was finally motivated to do it, it wasn't until it was super hot here. I've had to work in the morning for an hour or two then wait a day to do a little more. #woodworking #carpentry
So, whilst working on the roofing project, removing water damaged plywood, the chimney tilted. 4 inches every 4 feet, when measured, but it may of already been tilting due to water damaged underflooring. Aim: It would have fallen on the master bedroom toward the spouse's side of the bed. We are hurriedly fixing, using a jack, hoisting off a metal stairway with rope, and building new support joists underneath.
"May you live in interesting times...."
The perspective in the photo is slightly adjusted and the camera wasn't perfectly level. But the chimney is now aligned properly.
